In 1989, Barbara met a delightful little 4 year old girl Johanna who was very sick, but still managed a smile! Meeting Johanna was inspirational and seeing all the heartache they went through, inspired Barbara to start When You Wish Upon a Star in September 1990. Since then, Barbara has been an active Fairy Godmother and Trustee, granting wishes for hundreds of poorly children.

Carl joined us in 1998 and has been involved in the management of the charity, liaising closely with the senior managers, fundraisers and support teams. Carl is now a regular Team leader on the Santa Express trip and acts as MC and Auctioneer at fundraising Balls.
As a valued volunteer, Carl has been on 15 Lapland visits with the charity.
Mandy is a long term supporter and fundraiser for When You Wish Upon a Star and has tackled many tough fundraiser events.
Mandy is a Wish parent to Abigail one of our former special Wish children.
Davinder qualified as a solicitor in 2007 and specialises in corporate law services. Professionally Davinder has acted pro-bono for over 10 years advising a number of charitable organisations. Most recently Davinder has been involved in organising an exclusive fundraising event at Chatsworth House raising over £3,000.
Dav once did a skydive from 17,000 feet for charity and would do it again!
Paul joined When You Wish Upon a Star as a volunteer in 2002 and has since taken part in many fundraising events, as well as speaking regularly on behalf of the charity to various community groups and associations. Paul is a regular team leader having volunteered on one of our Lapland trips or Santa Express trips each year.
Paul has 3 daughters aged 27, 21 and 15 and a Son aged 22
Trevor is a retired Nottingham GP and NHS Medical Director with extensive governance experience. Trevor has volunteered providing medical support on our Lapland trips since 1994. He now works providing urgent health care services within the East Midlands.
Trevor sings with a barbershop group, The Major Oak Chorus, and he organises their charity fundraising shows.
Karen has been involved with When You Wish Upon a Star Charity dedicating herself for an amazing 18 years, helping to build and establish the charity and support network enabling, 1000’s of Wishes across the country. Before joining the charity sector Karen’s background was in Mortgage and Finance.
Rose is the deputy manager and has been a dedicated team member for 13 years. Rose developed the finance and compliance side of the charity accounting for all generous donations. Rose is the proud mother of two grown boys, who have given her two lovely grandsons.
Rose loves fitness classes and shopping.
Nicola joined the charity in 2016. Nicola’s role includes administration management and IT co-ordinating, ensuring all our Events, News and Wish stories are shared for our supporters, to see how their donations, help make magical memories to our children and their families.

Katie has been with When You Wish Upon a star for 8 years. Katie is lucky enough to attend our big events and Wish presentations, capturing all the magical moments on camera, for us to share with our Wish Families. Katie is currently advancing her skills by studying further in advanced Art and Graphic Design.
Katie likes Batman and Star Wars.
Louise has ventured into many careers within photography, PR, fashion and most recently the theatre before joining us at When You Wish Upon a Star. Her days at WYWUAS are spent diving into boxes and searching through rails of clothing in our warehouse to find the best brand bargains for our Ebay Store.
Louise is a qualified solo sky diver, jumping from aeroplanes across the UK and USA.
Works part time in our warehouse, but is also a dedicated volunteer helping out at the charity events where ever she can.
Likes watching cricket.
Pete is the manager of our Outlet Store, which is a non-profit store located in Nottingham, Pete is married to Holly and they have two small children.
Is a huge Oasis fan and his daughter Lyla is named after one of their songs.
Neil has been with When You Wish Upon a Star for over 2 years, and is a valuable part of the team, which run the warehouse, Neil also helps with collecting donated goods from sponsors.
Neil relocated from Scotland and he is a member of the Tartan Army and loves Celtic.
After relocating to Nottingham from Wolverhampton two years ago, Anthony has been our Warehouse Manager, which feeds our outlet store.
Anthony better known as Tony loves fancy dress, particularly inside a certain Wish Bear.
Alexa started her fundraising career in 2010, and has recently joined our team after 6 years of fundraising for the Stroke Association. Alexa is married with two teenage boys and was thrilled to join the fundraising team in raising more money, to grant more magical wishes.
Alexa spent over 10 years in the Royal Navy.
Nicola joined the charity in 2006. Throughout her time with the charity Nicola has had the privilege of meeting so many wonderful people, both beneficiaries and supporters who continue to be such an inspiration.
Nicola used to cross crocodile infested flooded rivers to get to her fundraising job in the outback!
Maggie joined the charity in 2008 bringing her Marketing and PR skills to the team but soon found her niche in fundraising as she wanted to help make a difference. Maggie is the proud mother of 2 adorable grown up children and feel very blessed that they are happy and healthy.
Maggie is the Junior Vice President of Vale of Belvoir Rotary Club, and a doting Nannie.
After 20 years in HR & Office Management, Claire joined the team in 2017 as a fundraising assistant, having decided a huge change of direction in her career was needed. Claire is now proud to say she is part of the magic which is created for our special Wish children.

Rachel’s role is to organise individual wishes for children and be the point of contact for the family from the outset. Rachel is passionate about ensuring each wish is as special as the child we are granting the wish for. To date, some of these include a themed family holiday to Florida and a trip to Alton Towers.
Loves dogs and has two Labradors called Marley and Wilson
Joanne is the first port of call for wishes for her region, before passing successful applications to the Wish Fairies at Head Office. Joanne also heads up fundraising and events, attends talks and networks, and works alongside schools, businesses and the general public to raise both funds and awareness.
Gemma handles much of the administration in the office but also enjoys networking events and giving presentations about our work. Gemma is involved in aspects of event planning and fundraising, and particularly loves to be involved with the Santa Express trip and seeing what a difference it makes to our families.
George regularly collects and delivers items and donations from around the county. As an ex Royal Air Force accounts officer, he still enjoys counting, tallying and banking funds raised. George is always on hand to do those time consuming jobs when practical assistance is needed at short notice and may never be allowed to retire!
Pat is the senior volunteer for the region and has volunteered for us since 1995. Pat loves nothing more than to bring a smile to a child’s face by helping to make their dream come true. Pat’s contribution to the Charity has been invaluable over the years and she was presented with the BEM in 2017 as a result of it.
Maria opened the office in the North West in 1997. Maria has devised and implemented, effective and profitable campaigns to ensure that we are able to fund a child’s wish, whenever it is needed. Her energy and persuasive powers have kept the support of donors and volunteers for over 20 years.

Sue joined the team in 1997. Following Maria’s successful launch of the North West office, Sue joined her, and working together, with the help of “The Wish Team”, continue to make a difference in the lives of children and their families living with life threatening illnesses.

Helen started her fundraising career in 2013 and has recently joined our team after 4.5 years at the RNIB. Helen has been involved with charities since a young age as her Grandad was a fundraising volunteer. She is looking forward to raising lots of money so more wishes can be granted!
Helen worked in the radio industry for 11 years.
Sam has been a ‘Wish Fairy’nearly 15 years, arranging hundreds of magical wishes across the Northwest, working very closely with each family and ensuring every part of the child’s wish becomes that everlasting memory and the child’s dream come true…
Mother to Anna & Elsa, and famous for daily malapropisms.
Jen’s role is to develop long term relationships with partners. Jen looks to work with a company, school or business to understand how we can work together to make a difference, so we can ensure we have the funds to carry on granting magical wishes.

Carol joined the North West Wish Team 14 years ago arranging travel and making dreams come true for our Wish Children. Carol also supports our Fundraising Team, with day to day enquires and many aspects of events, including our Winter Wonderland Spectacular each December.
Carol left sunny LA to come and be part of the amazing Wish Team!
Margaret has worked in the charity sector for over 26 yrs and was a radio programmer & researcher for social action radio programmes at both BBC Radio Derby and Ram FM. She is married to Andrew and has a daughter, Elizabeth, 4 dogs, 2 cats, 1 chinchilla and a rabbit.
Margaret will only go on a long walk if there is a cake shop at the end of it
Judith was introduced to the charity by a chance meeting in 2013 and instantly loved the charity and everything that it strived to achieve. Judith’s life moto is you simply must live life in the present and enjoy every minute that you have with your loved ones.
Judith won best dressed at the Brownies Parade in Cardiff in the 80’s dressed as Minnie Mouse.
Over the years Wish Bear has gone above and beyond for us, from visiting hospitals to entertaining children on their way to Lapland. He sees first-hand how amazing the charity is and how, even if for a moment, its ability to grant the wishes of seriously ill children can transform tough times for families.
No challenge is too much; he has even hosted an insanity fitness class.
