Feb 19 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Our friend Jason Bird has taken up the challenge of the Brecon to Cardiff Ultra and what a challenge it is, all 42 miles of it!
Jason has chosen to raise funds to help grant Wishes for our courageous children as we have granted a Wish for his nephew.
The race starts from Theatr Brycheiniog, Canal Wharf, in the Brecon Beacons National Park. With dramatic mountain landscapes and winds, crashing waterfalls and crystal clear reservoirs.
The run will follow the River Taff, while taking in the changing landscape of Wales’ Industrial Heritage. Along the abandoned Taff Vale Railway and Glamorganshire Canal, built in the 18th and 19th centuries to transport coal and iron ore from Merthyr Tydfil, following the Cynon Valley and the Rhondda Valley to the docks at Cardiff and Barry. The route then heads east following the Monmouthshire & Brecon Canal to Talybon-on-Usk, then climbing steeply to Talybon-on-Usk and Torpantu. From here it’s downhill all the way, passing Pontsticill Reservoir and the Brecon Mountain Railway to arrive in Merthyr with a great view of both the Cefn Coed Viaduct and Cyrfarthfa Castle, then south passing the Aberfan Memorial to Pontypridd and finally the finish line at Nantgarw.
