Center Parcs 2011
August 1st 2011 When You Wish Upon A Star’s Annual Centerparcs holiday... Had arrived..
Sherwood Forest Centerparcs didn't know what had hit them, when over 40 very excited children along with their families arrived for the start of the most fantastic, fun filled week's holiday to date. Also arriving throughout the day, were our wonderful celebrity guests, and paramedics, not forgetting the fabulous wish team volunteers.
After all the families had checked into their villas, they made their way to the 'Venue' which was to be the home of our nightly entertainment each evening. Once met by the wish team, the families were soon made to feel at home and quickly made lots of new friends young and old.
The gasps of delight and contagious laughter could be heard throughout the evening, and what a fantastic first night 'welcome' party we all had... the children couldn't wait to have a go at the prize every time tombola, face painting, giant scalextrics, John the magician kept everyone spellbound with his endless table tricks, and adventurous balloon art.. After dining on a magnificent varied buffet of foods to suit the fussiest of eaters, it was over to our very own 'Amazing' Paul Sleem, who quickly encouraged all the children to join in for a very funny and entertaining children's talent show and disco.. with lots of little sleepy eyes, and big yawns, it was time to say goodbye, well until tomorrow...
After a full day spent in the sub tropical paradise pool for most of the families, riding the thrilling water slides and surfing the giant tidal waves, tonight's theme at the 'Venue' was the Wishy barbecue and Hoe down evening. Woody from Toy Story along with Donald Duck and Dora the Explorer were a real party starter, meeting and greeting all the children as they arrived and posing for pictures and signing autographs. The children soon found the tattoo station, excitedly picking from hundreds of different designs and Henna art. The nail bar armed with several of our older teenage volunteers, went down a huge hit, with all the little girls looking stunning with their ladybird nail art sparkle and diamante designed nails. After a finger licking Texas barbecue it was over to the chocolate fountain for a massive 'messy' feast, not forgetting the ice cream parlour machine, popcorn and candy floss station, oh and the humungous delicious sweetie bar, which was more like a scene set from Willy Wonka.. All the children got a caricature badge made of themselves, once, they could steal themselves away that is, from the cowboy shoot out arcade ride. Just when you thought nothing more could possibly happen in one evening, in walked the most gorgeous, gigantic 15ft animatronics Polar Bear.. the unsure were soon put at ease as Mr. Polar Bear gently posed for pictures with all of the families.. after another mini disco, and a hilarious children's X Factor session, it was time to say.. Night x
Wednesday afternoon brought the 'family' and 'celebrity' football challenge.. Mum's dad's brothers and sisters, wheelchairs and walking frames, no disability stopped anyone from joining in the fun, and boy did we have some fun.. Will Mellor, Gaynor Faye, our little star 'Ellis' (Tom Cunningham) from Hollyoaks, Saracen the gladiator, Cilla and Candice from Corey all got stuck in, and were placed on different teams all determined to win for their side.. Some taking it a little more seriously than others (not mentioning any names) Will.. After several hours of cheering and having lots and lots of laughs the competition knockout was over, all the players received their well deserved medals, presented by one of the Celebs. With everyone exhausted we all headed home for an early night and to recover, for the big farewell 'princess' and 'pirate' ball tomorrow night xx
Every child, parent, volunteer, celebrity, staff, each and every person all made the most fantastic effort to dress up either as a pirate or a princess. The look on the children's faces was a picture, arriving at the 'Venue' to see the entire building had been completely transformed overnight into a pirate ship.. The children were greeted by Disney Princesses, Pirates, Captain Hook, Peter Pan and Tinkerbelle and everyone's favourite 'Captain Jack Sparrow'.. It was surprise after surprise all night, from singing waiters to the most spectacular swashbuckling pirate show. After everyone had filled their faces with a tasty Carvery dinner, it was off to hit the dance floor, and to really get the party started!! The families and celebs danced the entire night away from tracks like Y.M.C.A to Lady Gaga.. Unfortunately the time had come, for us all to say our sad goodbyes... With lots of sad tears, but hearts full of happiness and fantastic memories, we waved our families farewell, until we meet again!!xx
