More than £25,000 raised from Christmas lights at family home

The Christmas lights will be turned off for the final time this festive season at 9pm on January 1. Huge crowds flocked to see the Christmas lights at a family home in Nuthall over the Christmas period – raising thousands for a good cause.

The Swift family, made up of Adam, 25 and his parents Wendy and Tony, unveiled their extravagant Christmas display at 6pm on November 19 in front of thousands of people who had travelled from across Nottinghamshire .

Wendy and Tony have been turning the front of their house into a winter wonderland since 2004, originally benefiting Hayward House palliative care unit.

The family set a goal of £21,000 in donations from the public who can visit a shop and a Santa’s grotto but on New Year’s Day they found out they had beaten the target and had in fact raised £25,660.

Mr Swift said: “We originally set a target or £21,000 to beat last year but we had beaten that on Christmas Eve which we were thrilled about.

“We are hoping we make it to £26,000 in total this year and there is still time to donate until around mid January if people would like to.”

The Christmas lights will be turned off for the final time this festive season at 9pm on January 1 until they are put up again later on this year.

Mr Swift added: “It was just incredible that we made £3,000 in just one night on Christmas Eve, we have never seen anything like that before.

“I would like to thank everyone that has helped us this year: my family, the neighbours, the volunteers and everyone who came to visit. We are all really chuffed about the whole thing.”

The family organise a big Christmas light switch-on every year to raise money for charity. This year the money is being split between When You Wish Upon A Star and Nottingham Hospital Charity for Haywood House.
