Charity Trustee – Finance (Unpaid)

When You Wish Upon a Star are seeking a Charity Trustee from a finance background to join our Board of Trustees who support our staff and volunteers in granting magical Wishes for children living with a life threatening illness.

This is an opportunity to make a difference to the lives of young people throughout the UK by helping to lead our dedicated team mainly based at our three offices in Nottingham, Stockport and Edinburgh.

We wish to develop our Board with new Trustees who can bring different experience, knowledge and ideas, and are able to work constructively and enthusiastically as a team. As well as a finance-experienced trustee, we will also be seeking additional Trustees with previous senior charity management experience and a volunteer/user perspective.

Trustee meetings held in person will be held at the Charity's Head Office in Nottingham. Occasional presence at this office, where the finance team and general manager are based, is expected. Residing within easy access of Nottingham is therefore desirable. Please see our team page for details of the current Trustees.

Responsibilities

Trustees are the people who lead the charity and decide how it is run.
Being a Trustee has legal responsibilities, but not financial ones, as set out by the Charities Commission.
This Trustee post will take a lead on gaining assurance on the financial aspects of the charity and giving oversight support to our small finance team.
Trustees should use their skills and experience to support the charity, helping it to develop and implement the strategic objectives in order to achieve their charitable aims.
It is hoped Trustees will also find their time on the board of a charity a learning experience.
A Trustee must always act in the charity’s best interest.
A Trustee must always act with reasonable care and skill.
