Polar Express 2016

Families who took part in the magical trip, dubbed the Northern Polar Express, travelled from Edinburgh Waverley Station on board the Belmond Northern Belle - sister train to the Venice-Simplon Orient Express, From there, they were treated to brunch on the train, a chance to explore the grand rooms of Glamis castle, festive crafts and a four-course christmas dinner a disco before a spectacular firework display.

There was even the opportunity to make a Christmas wish to Santa and meet some of his reindeer.

It's just wonderful to of had all the children there together, to have something they can talk about for years to come.” The trip has been important, not just for children, but for parents going between hospital and family life.

Almost 70 families boarded the Belmond Northern Belle, sister train to the Orient Express at Edinburgh’s Waverley station for the trip across the Forth and Tay to Dundee.

They were then taken to the 600-year-old Angus landmark to explore the grand rooms of the family seat of the earls of Strathmore and Kinghorne.

The children and their families were welcomed to the historic castle by Mary Dowager Countess of Strathmore.

Our annual trips whisks seriously ill youngsters away from hospitals and appointments to spend fun time with their families, giving them a chance to escape, even for a short while, from the difficulties they face on a day-to-day basis.
