Celebrate A Day With Luke

At the beginning of 2015, Luke Chapman (9) embarked on a unbelievable mission to raise a staggering £25,000 in one year so that many more sick children could enjoy a magical Wish…

...and #CelebrateADaywithLuke was born. Luke came up with the idea, for someone, anywhere in the world to help celebrate a ‘National Day’, in doing so they would help Luke raise funds and there are more National days than you would have thought. A few favourites were Star Wars day, Chocolate day, Weather Man day, Ice Cream day and Be A Millionaire for the day with hundred’s more …….. Since the 1st January Luke hasn’t stopped raising funds and this is truly exceptional for anyone, especially someone who is only 9 years of age! It’s not only us that think so as just a couple of weeks ago, Luke was invited for a very special day trip to London and he had no idea what was going to be in store and Luke certainly didn’t anticipate meeting the Prime Minster, Mr David Cameron! The Prime Minister had heard all about Luke’s fundraising and was so impressed he appointed Luke with the 421st ‘Point of Light’ and invited Luke to 10 Downing Street to receive his award personally. Luke’s £25,000 target has now been smashed and currently stands at £28,000 and is still rising….

We are so proud of you Luke and thank you so much for helping us to make so many more magical Wishes come true. If you would like to donate to Celebrate a Day with Luke please click here...

In December 2014 we chartered 3 flights to Lapland to meet Father Christmas, and invited families from across the Northwest to join us at Centre Parcs.

We also continued fulfilling the Wishes of children with life threatening illnesses up and down the UK.

Welcome to When You Wish Upon a Star

Dream making for sick children...

When You Wish Upon a Star has a simple mission, to grant the Wishes of children living with a life threatening illness, aged 2-16 years. Our Wishes have the power to transform the lives of the children and families we work with and since 1990 we have proudly granted over 16,000 Wishes across the UK.

Some children Wish to be a fairy princess or soldier for the day, meet celebrities or sporting heroes that range from the Red Arrows to Mary Berry and others Wish for a laptop to keep in contact with their friends and family whilst in hospital. One of our most popular Wishes remains the exciting opportunity to swim with dolphins and meet all their favourite characters in Disneyland.

In addition to our Wishes throughout the year, we also organise a number of days out and treats for the children like our incredible Harry Potter-themed trips on-board the beautiful Belmond Northern Belle train, where characters entertain the children on their journey with weird and wonderful magic, flying broomsticks, props and costumes, keeping them amazed and entertained all day.

We believe every child deserves to smile and with your support we can provide time away, giving children and their families something to look forward to through times of uncertainty and often financial as well as emotional strain. Wishes allow the family to put their child’s illness on hold as they have fun and create precious memories.

Every donation big or small brings a seriously ill child’s Wish closer to being granted. There are many ways you can help by joining in one of our events, supporting us through your community group or school, volunteering or becoming one of our corporate partners.

Each December the charity charters several aircraft and enables hundreds of children to swap hospital beds for sleigh rides transporting them away from appointments, treatments and injections to the winter wonderland of Lapland on board our Santa Express flights and we also host a wonderful Winter Wonderland weekend at Center Parcs.
