When You Wish Upon a Star welcomes Tanita Mistry as the new Fundraising Manager. Tanita comes to us with extensive experience in the charitable sector and is eager to apply her fundraising expertise to benefit When You Wish Upon a Star.

Let’s get to know her better…

Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your background? 

I’m Tanita the fundraising manager here at When You Wish Upon a Star, I was born up north in Lancashire and moved down to the West Midlands in 2015 as I landed a dream fundraising job at a children’s hospital. I’ve been fundraising for over 10 years (where has the time gone) and loved every minute of it! 

What attracted you to join our team/company?

Having worked for a variety of children’s charities previously, I really drawn to the mission that When You Wish are on to grant wishes for children with life threating illnesses, from previous experience I’d seen families go through some of the toughest times and heard about how isolating it could be and worrying. Being able to create magic and memories for these families is something that would last a lifetime. I wanted to join the team to help get When you Wish back on track to raising funds to help us to continue the work we do and reach out to more children and families across the UK.

What excites you most about your role here?

I’m excited to build the fundraising team up and watch us join forces with some incredible organisations. We want to grow our reach and support more children and families across the UK! So if you’re up for the challenge and want to join us let me know! 

Can you share a little bit about your interests or hobbies outside of work?

Outside of work, I love going to the gym and getting out for a walk, but I also loveeee eating out and trying new restaurants! Mexican food is my favourite and the team laugh at me how often I’m out eating Tacos. 

What is your favourite quote or saying?

A quote that’s stayed with me since primary school is “Treat those as you wish to be treated” a simple saying but reminds me every day to lead with kindness.

What would your friends say about you? 

I actually asked a group of my friends to send over what they would say and they were so kind “Funny, determined, empathetic, an unwavering curiosity for life and oh make the best dancer partner with all the moves” I think if you ever need a pick me up, going to your best friends with this question is the key!

What is one challenge you have set yourself in 2024? 

Personally I’ve set myself the challenge to read a book a month! I’m currently 1 book behind but I’ve got a few holidays booked and I know I can get back on track!
