Sophie's marathon bike ride for When You Wish Upon A Star
Eight-year-old Sophie Pope has raised over £500 for When You Wish Upon a Star by cycling a marathon with support from her mum, Sarah.
Sophie shared her reasons for fundraising for When You Wish Upon a Star:
Tell us why you chose to fundraise for When You Wish Upon a Star?
I chose to fundraise for When You Wish Upon a Star because when I was 4 driving past on the road outside I spotted the charity and I asked my Mum what it was and she told me it was a charity that helped sick children and make their dreams cone true. I remembered that ever since and now I am 8 it just popped up in my head when my mum asked me which charity when I decided to do a marathon bike ride to raise money. I cycled the Tissington trail which ended up as 28 miles instead of 26!
How did you feel during and on completion of the event?
The first half I felt really nervous, excited and tired because it was all uphill! The last 14 miles were downhill but I had achy legs at the end.
At the end I felt very very proud of myself and exhausted at the same time.
What would you say to someone thinking of taking part in an event or fundraising for When You Wish Upon a Star?
Make sure what you do is real challenge, so people will sponsor you for this amazing charity. You will feel really proud of yourself because it will be really hard but you have done it and done really well with it.
What does it mean to you knowing your efforts support granting the wishes of children facing life threatening and terminal illness? It makes me feel happy knowing that the children who are ill get to do what they want to do most.
