Message from Chair of Trustees

We are in the midst of the most serious epidemic in 100 years as Covid-19 is now affecting everybody’s life. All of us at When You Wish Upon a Star are taking this dreadful virus and the repercussions very seriously.

Those with a serious illness are at greatest risk and our hearts go out to all those at risk, but especially those families with sick children who our charity has always been committed to helping.

Social isolation will be hard for us all but even harder for these families.

There are many consequences as a result of the Government’s advice which aims to flatten the peak of serious cases. The work of When You Wish Upon a Star has been impacted as we have already been forced to cancel many experiences, trips and Wishes involving travel in the UK and abroad. Some non-travel Wishes are still being granted where possible.

The Charity’s fundraising has also been hit as fundraising events are having to be cancelled or postponed. Provisional plans are still going ahead for later in the year and we are thinking about new schemes which might be achievable whilst people remain socially isolated.

For When You Wish Upon a Star to continue to grant Wishes and provide memorable experiences for children with life threatening illnesses in the future, we still require funds so we would urge you to please continue donating - our good work relies on your support.

We are still receiving requests for Wishes and we will communicate as best we can to explain what we are able to do, but regretfully no Wishes requiring overseas travel are being accepted in this current climate.

All our staff who are able work remotely are doing so and others are practicing social distancing. We are grateful for their dedication and flexibility.

So please consider making a donation or think up a clever way of fundraising which is suitable for the current national situation.
